Monthly Market Risk Update My colleague Sam Millette, manager, fixed income on Commonwealth’s Investment Management and Research team, helped me put together this month’s Market Risk Update. Thanks for the assist, Sam! Let’s take a closer look.

Equity markets rallied in January, supported by falling long-term interest rates. The S&P 500 gained 6.28 percent during the month, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) experienced a 2.93 percent rise. The Nasdaq Composite led the way with a 10.72 percent gain in January.

Given that many of the indicators remain in red or yellow territory, we have left the overall market risk level at red for now.

The forward price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio divides the current share price of the index by its estimated future earnings.
