My colleague [Sam Millette,](https://blog.commonwealth.com/independent-market-observer/author/sam-millette) director, fixed income on Commonwealth’s Investment Management and Research team, helped me put together this month’s Market Risk Update. Thanks for the assist, Sam! Let’s take a closer look.

July was a strong month for equity markets, as all three major equity indices rallied. The S&P 500 gained 3.21 percent, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 3.44 percent. The Nasdaq Composite led the way with a 4.08 percent gain, supported by a rise in technology stocks.

Given the concerns about slowing growth and inflation, we have kept the overall market risk level at yellow for now.
