As a Mac user, I know that Mac Mail isn’t the best. Even Apple admits that, telling users earlier this year that the only workaround was to “quit and reopen” it. That sounds like a very Microsoft-y solution: just reboot it!

Commonwealth uses MS Exchange to provide access to mail, contacts, and calendars across many devices. And, unfortunately for our Mac users, the Apple workaround won’t work reliably.

When we wrote about Windows 8 in March and in August, we slowly started to see Windows 8 in our advisors’ offices. As Darren Tedesco wrote in his August post, it hasn’t really surged in popularity like Microsoft had expected. In fact, it hasn’t surged in popularity like I had expected. People aren’t upgrading because of the general perception of Windows 8—because it is a change away from what people are used to and because of the reputation it has gotten from online reviews.

Making the Switch to Android

I made the jump to Android. Prior to owning my new Moto X, I used only the Apple iOS for my phone and tablet needs. In fact, I used iOS since Apple released the first iPhone in June 2007. So before making the switch, I was extremely nervous. I told myself that I wouldn’t be going back to Apple for a while and that, in order to gain knowledge, sometimes you need to do things outside of your comfort zone. Still, I kept telling myself that it wouldn’t be okay to ditch iOS. That I should at least keep my phone handy in the (likely) case that I’d come crawling back. I was making it harder on myself, but why? Was it because the iOS really was better and the obvious choice? Was it because I had heard bad things about Android?
